Benefits Of Video Conferencing Systems

By Rosella Campbell

The world is on the move each and every day as more and more innovations are brought forward in various technological fields. Innovations in the communication sector and industry do not seize to come about every now and then. One such innovation is the creation and development of video conferencing systems. This is a relatively new technology that has been there for a while but has not received much attention until recent times.

The above systems have been in use for almost a century now. The earliest recorded occurrence of use of teleconferencing for meetings is in Germany. Later on, this innovation gained favor in other parts of the world such as the United States of America. It has a wide range of applications for instance in various electronic learning set ups.

Universities and other education institutions are fond of using teleconferencing for the purpose of teaching students located all over the world from just one classroom. This is a very good example of how useful these technological systems are to the society. The basic requirements for coming up with such a system are video and audio input devices.

Output devices for the same are also required. These gadgets are responsible for the capturing and relaying of the information being transmitted among the multiple locations in real time. The other very important device required in the above set up is a computer. This is the machine that will act as the work station for all other peripherals being used in the teleconferencing. All input and output devices will be connected to a computer fitted with appropriate software.

The other very important aspect of this technological solution is the availability of high speed internet. This is indeed quite necessary before any type of communication takes place. High bandwidth facilitates the real time transmission of video and audio signals in a two channel basis. The slowing down of the internet connection may lead to lagging or delays in the signals.

The two major teleconferencing systems that exist currently are dedicated and desktop based. Dedicated solutions are the high end option as it provides an excellent conference experience in real time. The equipment made use of here is quite sophisticated and complex in nature. The cost of a dedicated system is quite high as compared to a desktop system.

Big multinational companies are gradually embracing this concept and are setting up these special rooms in their various headquarters in different parts of the world. This solution saves a lot of money that would have been used to transport individuals from one city to another. The time and finances that could be used during the process of travelling to attend a certain meeting are channeled to acquiring a fully dedicated virtual conference system.

The other option that is available for smaller institutions is outsourcing a desktop based teleconferencing system. This is a cheaper option that can go a long way in assisting small groups of people to hold virtual meetings without necessary investing a lot of money on a dedicated system.
