Why You Stand To Benefit From If You Buy Synthetic Oil

By Essie Osborn

Majority of drivers for long thought that synthetic(man-made) oil is not good for vehicle engines. The situation is however changing thanks to campaign aimed at increasing awareness on the benefits vehicle owners stand to gain should they buy synthetic oil as opposed to the natural lubricants. The benefits offered actually translate to longer engine life and reduced maintenance cost.

Military jets usually perform at high speed in very extreme conditions. As such, all their components are made to adapt and facilitate this. Their engine is not an exception. What you might not know yet is that they use synthetic oil as opposed to the natural ones. There are many reasons for this, but before discussing them, it is important to understand how the two are different.

Natural oils are made from petroleum products that are pumped from beneath the earth surface. They result from fossil fuels that are remains of organic bodies that have been buried beneath the earth surface for millions of years with specific temperature rates and specific pressure level that turn it to petroleum. The next stage is processing after which they are sold. In the processing stage, there is no consistency on molecular structure that results to the whole difference. This renders lubricant useless in very short time.

The synthetic oils are man-made and hence the big difference. Different chemical compounds that are not natural are used to come up with oils that are consistent in their molecular structure. It is the manufacturer who controls the structure. This makes them durable for over 10, 000 to 12,000 miles distance which is over four times the distance that is covered (3,000 miles) after which the natural oils have to be replaced.

With control in structure, comes great diversity. Different engines have different demands and all this can be met by controlling the molecular structure to meet specific needs. For instance, the jet engine requirements are different for those of a car and an old car with a lot of wear and tear needs more viscous oil while new cars performs better with oils targeting to protect moving parts.

These are not by any means the only profits given that this decision helps spare cash. Buying man-made oil requires more cash as compared to natural ones. The emphasis is however on the benefits you stand to gain on the long run. With closer look, you discover that it is in fact the cheaper alternative. These include the general increase in the engine life, reduced costs associated with visiting garage for servicing (less cost of buying filters, changing oil and labor costs) and general smooth engine running.

Why are they preferred for jet engines? Simple, their working condition needs special oils. Their requirements are only met by synthetic oil which can be modified as the condition demands. This reveals just how aviation industry finds this oil so important.

The story is not different for motor vehicle engine. With all these superior performance qualities, it makes a lot of sense to switch to the safer alternative that turns out to be cheaper in long run. The advantages could be summed up as better viscosity, better wear control, better deposit control and better temperature fluidity all leading to overall reduced cost.
