Sources Of Affordable Legal Protection For Families

By Mattie Knight

Each year a huge percentage of individuals will need legal services that they will not get. This is, largely, because either, they do not understand their rights or think that these form of representation is too expensive. Either way, many suffer annually because they have no access to affordable legal protection for families. This is a sad fact especially considering that these services are readily and easily accessible. Some issues that families deal with include adoption, child and spousal support, custody battles, domestic violence, marital dissolutions as well as paternity.

The government employs a team of lawyers to represent citizens who cannot afford to pay lawyers. It is a requirement that every citizen has access to legal representation in a court of law. This is perhaps one of the most accessible ways of getting affordable protection. This tends to even out the odds especially in custody battles, paternity and spousal support.

An alternative is approaching a nonprofit law center in your vicinity. These centers provide services and advice at very low prices. They get their funding from various sources most of which are donations from institutions and NGOs, government sources and philanthropic ventures. Most of these centers have qualified family lawyers with years of experience.

Many law firms and lawyers take on Pro bono cases. This essentially means that they handle cases free of charge. Cases are chosen from such institutions like hospitals, adoption homes, nonprofit law centers and non-government organizations dealing with family issues. This is an excellent opportunity for recipients because most of these firms have access to large resources and teams of qualified lawyers.

Group plans offered by law firms use the same principle as insurance companies do. Groups of families come together and pay as a group. The plan creates a pool of funds to be used by the members to seek aid. Chances are that, not every family in the plan will need these services during the year and especially not together. The plan creates a chance to acquire cheap representation.

One almost free option is whereby one member of the family is an attorney. Obviously, this family will get free counsel and representation if dad is a lawyer. It is also advantageous if the family is related to a lawyer either as family friends or as distant relations. These services will be generally cheaper than hiring an outside family lawyer.

Most religious centers and organizations help their members get access to affordable counsel. This may be in many forms. Some members may volunteer help if either they have access to aid or they themselves are lawyers. Some religions follow their own set of family laws, for example Islamic family law. These services are usually cheaper than seeking justice from the judicial system.

With the many choices available that offer help, do not suffer at your own expense. Be sure to seek advice before taking any legal decision. Family related issues are always propping up. Ensure that you have some protection in your corner.
