Invest In The Right Name Tags For Employees

By Brenda Foster

These days, there are many ways to drive sales. Right now, companies of all sizes are navigating their way around digital marketing techniques and social media profiles. While this may be the tool to increase sales or improve engagement, those with a brick and mortar operation need to consider the basics. For instance, name tags for employees are best when it comes to positive customer interaction.

Even if a person has a small operation, this small investment goes a long way and can play a large role in their marketing. For one, no one wants to be addressed as sir, madam, or hey. Sharing a first name invites customers to ask questions and possibly close a sale with the help of productive rapport given by the employee who assisted them.

Marketing research companies are making a tidy amount of money by offering quality assessments services to businesses and franchise operations. Headquarters may do this to ensure uniformity in a work environment but this service is mostly used to improve customer relations. While employee interaction is one focal point, silent selling basics like signage display or arrangement of products are also considered.

In many of these situations, if employees cannot be easily identified by a badge or tag, then this can be problematic. For stores that do not require an employee uniform, no identification can mean lost sales. Not having a visible tag can also hurt when it comes to using social media for marketing purposes.

While some operations may put a lot of thought into their social media profile, they may overlook marketing fundamentals. Employees without an identification badge or tag may be missing out on accolades given by happy customers on review sites. Although posters on these types of sites will give a physical description of a tagless employee that gave bad service, those nameless individuals that go above and beyond rarely get a mention.

Review sites give the greatest incentive for staff to deliver the best customer service possible. Even though some people will use these to rant, customers are more than happy to mention someone that has given them exceptional customer service. When someone sees their name attached to a positive review, it can do a lot for the company as well as employee morale.

Large operations should also require identification tags for those who work in various departments. While some may feel this is stifling, or that open communication is better than a badge, it can help bridge communication gaps. This is especially true when working with those that have an unusual first or last name or want to be addressed by a nickname.

Identification tags can also be of use at professional gatherings where others in a particular industry are likely to network. Knowing a name is a nice opener and it is a lot less expensive than handing out a business card at random. By knowing a name and title as indicated on a badge, this point of contact may lead to new business opportunities.
