The Pros And Cons Of Animation For Web Design Companies

By Arthur Williams

If you've been on the Internet for any length of time, you know that GIFs are commonplace. Whether you realize it or not, animation has become part and parcel of the online world as we know it today. Web design companies recognize this and, more importantly, are able to incorporate animation into the websites they develop. When it comes to the pros and cons of animation, however, here are some of the biggest worth recognizing.

PRO - Animation grabs the attention of others. Compared to static images that can be found on virtually any website, GIFs are definitely better at grabbing the attention of others. The reason for this is that they move, meaning that they generate more interest by nature. Users want to know how these GIFs end, hoping for a funny or otherwise satisfying result. This is just one of the many pros that companies like Lounge Lizard can recognize.

CON - The file sizes associated with animation are bigger. The more cardinal sin that a website can break is not being fast. A slower loading speed, for example, tends to be a result of an overabundance of content. As any web design company will tell you, GIFs take up more space than almost any other image file size. What this means is that designers have to be mindful about where they implement forms of animation.

PRO - There's tremendous versatility that animation can offer. There are countless GIFs on the Internet today. Some of them are focused on tricks that pets perform. Others might be geared toward technology in action. Whatever the case may be, it cannot be denied that animation, as we know it today, boasts tremendous versatility. It's simply a matter of what you choose to do with the tools at your disposal.

CON - Poor web animation comes across as pixelated. This is one of the biggest challenges of creating GIFs, no matter how experienced you might be in web design. Without the right tools and strategies in place, your images gain pixelated appearances. Not only does it become difficult to see what's being showcased, but your website suffers because of it. Needless to say, web animation requires effort.
