Using Custom Martingale Dog Collars

By Della Monroe

Martingale collars were made specifically for dogs whose neck is wider compared to the head. However, they are used for many breeds currently to make sure they do not slip away during a lead. They are tightened around the neck. The necklines are interconnected because when the dog pulls the lead the lapel next to lead is also pulled. This makes the custom martingale dog collars around the neck of the animal to become tighter.

For those searching for a better solution for dogs which always slip out of normal leashes, custom martingale band is the better option. However, remember that you should be in a position to operate them well. Familiarize yourself with its components before you set out to get one. Also, go through their benefits to compare them with standard chokers.

These leashes have more merits compared to standard ones. The first one is that they ensure the skin of pooch is not irritated by fitting only loosely. For this reason, the dog is likely to do well during training because it is comfortable. Also, rarely do they get too snug to choke the animal. This is because tightening during pulls happens above the wind pipe. This cannot be said about the traditional ones and they can easily kill the animal.

The martingale band fits more loosely as opposed to regular ones. It is true that tightening can happen to the point of making the pooch uncomfortable but slackening takes place very fast. In addition, it is not too loose to make it possible for the dog to get off it with ease.

There is one big band connected to a smaller one by a d-shaped ring. If a pull on this system has an effect on the one near the lead then you know that the band is very loose. The ideal one should only allow your fingers to get into the space between the collar and the neck. However, you have to make this even tighter if you are taking the animal for training. It is frustrating to have the canine run off during this time.

The dog pulling during the walk when you have fitted this kind of a band gives the feeling that the pooch taking the lead instead of you. This makes the situation exciting and enjoyable. During training, ensure that you fit the collar high up the animal neck to make sure that it does not get away.

The anterior region of the neck is sensitive than at the posterior. This is why the dog is not likely to slip away if the collar is fixed at this region. Tightening of the collar makes it to stop or slow down. With more practice, the dog is conditioned to sense extra pulling. This way, it is likely to move at the same pace as you.

Remember that the collars have disadvantages too. The main one is chocking the animal to the extent of causing death or serious neck injuries. Therefore, use the collar only when you are with the dog or there is someone available to loosen the band grip on the neck in the event that the dog pulls too much making it to choke.
