The History Of Original Web Comics

Web comics are actually very popular among netizens these days because they provide a very good source of entertainment to anyone who browses the web. Now if one is not familiar with what these are, basically they are comic strips that are uploaded through the internet in order to reach out to people. This short background on original web comics will provide people with some knowledge on how they originated and how they evolved.

Although the first internet comic strip was published in the year 1985, it did not become very popular yet. This comic was known as Witches in Stitches and it was actually a parody of the popular story the Wizard of Oz. The creator of this comic was Eric Millikin and he used Compuserve to transfer his work.

Eventually during the early nineties, another pioneer comic that went by the name of Where the Buffaloes Roam was also created. This was a comic that was made by mister Hans Bjordahl and was one of the first to come out. Another one came out in 1993 known as Doctor Fun made by David Farley.

After the year 1993, there were a lot of internet cartoons that came out because the internet became more popular and accessible to people everywhere. Now the comics that were made during that time were actually black and white and identical to the ones that can be found in the newspaper. Two very popular ones were Nukees and Polymer City Chronicles.

Now after the year 1996 up until the year 2000, web cartoon strips entered a period known as the Singularity period. It was during this time that making money was actually possible for even amateur web cartoonists. It was also during this period of time that more and more people began using the Japanese style of drawing that is used in Manga.

Things started to get really interesting during the year 2001 up until 2006 as this was the reinvention of internet comics. At that time gaming strips as well as nerdy gag strips became extremely popular all over the world. The web also became an avenue for indie artists to be able to get their worked gain popularity in case their works did not get published.

From the year 2007 and onwards, internet strips became very popular as many people saw these strips as forms of entertainment and fun. Now it was because of social media that they these special strips were able to stand the test of time. In fact many artists made use of social media platforms in order to become more popular.

Now presently, these comics have made their way into apps or applications for phones. Since this is the latest thing in technology, web cartoonists began to slowly adapt so that they can keep up with their viewers. It is because of this flexibility that they are able to stay popular among the readers. In fact, people have began simplifying these strips and making them more popular by turning them into memes. If one could say something about the present day web cartoons, he would probably say that memes would be the modern version of them.
