Social Sites Are A Threat To Google - Here's Why

By Abraham Joseph

With the advent of Facebook, twitter, and other social media sites, Google has slowly seen its power to command traffic and advertising begin to wane. It is no longer able to compete with social media sites, even with Google Plus. The reason is that these social media sites were the first on the scene, and also provide a variety of qualities that cannot be found on Google. Let's look at the benefit of using Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks over Google to show you why they're losing hold in the online world.

Times have changed, and social media has now become much more popular than searching for items on the web. Likewise, advertising through companies like Facebook have really given Google a run for the money because of the social aspect of this type of advertising. Let's look at why social sites are a threat to Google, and how you can capitalize on the benefits of using social media today.

Despite the fact that Yahoo also had a hold in the search engine world, it's quickly lost its prominence in regard to Google. Therefore, Google is having trouble competing against Facebook and Twitter because they have created something absolutely unique in regard to social interactions online. Google Plus is Google's attempt to compete in this market, but because it came later on, it will never have a foothold these other two websites do.

You can place advertisements on Facebook which many people will see. They can also share this advertisement with friends and family, and they can do the same. Therefore, your advertising dollar takes on a whole new level of profitability because of this viral sharing aspect of advertising on social media sites.

Because there are other reasons to be on social media sites, users will find ways to use them for their searches whenever they can. If they want to know more about a celebrity, they may check their Facebook page or hashtag rather than starting up an internet search. Why take the other step when they could keep using a site they already enjoy? Google attempted to enter the social site realm with Google+, but that venture has been less than successful. If Google wants to stay on the top of their game, they need to offer a better social site experience.
