Various Kinds Of Network Cabling

By Toni Vang

Cable refers to a device which serves as a channel or medium of information transfer from one network to the next. These are mostly used in Local Area Network or LAN. There are various kinds of cable. Some of which are STPs, UTPs, Fiber Optics, WLANs, and Coaxial. These can be combined by a network while some networks only use one type. This depends on what kind of function needs to be achieved.

Among these, the UTP is more in demand because it is affordable and is the most commonly used in various networks. These have different speeds according to classification. Cabling Austin, TX uses various cable types to provide your network needs. They are on standby for service calls especially with internet networks.

The UTPs, even if they are very affordable and easy to install, are likely to be interfered by electrical devices. Hence, STPs can be a good support. Like UTPs, these also contain twisted wires that are paired. But these are more expensive than UTPs because they are more capable of overcoming interferences.

UTPs are also twisted paired wires like STPs. These are less expensive, however, and more popular. The reason why it is so popular is because its installation is fast and easy. UTPs do not have the capacity to block interferences unlike STPs.

Coaxial cables are those that use copper to conduct electricity and capture signals. But it is difficult to install. Nevertheless, it can prevent electronic interferences. These are perfect to combine with the twisted pairs namely UTPs and STPs. There are two classifications for coaxial, thick and thin.

Fiber Optics are one of the most complex cables and it has been intricately made. These have incredibly wide coverage and can support video conferencing and communications. Its speed is undeniably faster than anything else which means data transmission is faster using this cable type. It uses Ethernet. Furthermore, this is ideal in huge organisations especially in government transactions because it will make online services faster.

Installers must follow certain guidelines in the installation of any type of cable. The cables must have extra lengths and the installation should be done at least three feet away from any source of signal and electronic interference. These may cause disruptions in the process of configuration.

Testing the network must be done prior to the mounting of cable wires. If there are detected network defects, they need to have them fixed thoroughly or connectivity will be affected. There are protectors that cover these wires since the wirings are sensitive. In addition, if they are covered, they will also be able to avoid interferences of signal.

Both ends of the cable must be labeled to avoid confusion regarding where the other one must be installed. They must also be tied instead of using tapes since these are not reliable support. This will avoid people from tripping over the excess lines and wires.
