The Guide To A Rechargeable Hearing Aid

By Serena Price

Historically, several techniques have been used to solve the problem of hearing loss. In early times, funnel shaped cones or trumpets were used to try solving this problem by collecting sound energy and then guiding the same into the ear. Today, there are a number of devices used for this purpose, both electronic and non-electronic. Among the electroacoustic devices used currently are the bone-anchored aids, cochlear implants, disposable and the rechargeable hearing aid.

The basic components of a rechargeable hearing aid include a microphone, a receiver (speaker), signal conditioning and a battery that can be recharged. The microphone does the job of sound conversion to electric signals, which then undergoes some conditioning such as amplification or equalization. The receiver then converts the signals back to sound. All the components are powered by the battery.

There are several versions in market today, all designed to meet different tastes and preferences. The ones you would commonly find are the models placed in the ear, ones for the ear behind and those to be placed inside ear canal. Since the ones for ear behind require some custom fittings, they are a little more expensive.

The models for ear canals too need to be fitted since the design is that they remain invisible. This is achieved by placing them deeper in the ear. The solution often lies in custom fitting. There is however the benefit of more natural sound experience which results from inner location and venting. The models in this category can be the extended wear that can stay in for up to three months and the open fit model which will comfortably fit behind the ear and allow for an open canal as a result.

Unlike the disposable versions which become useless ones the power run out, the rechargeable hearing aid is a better alternative. The design therefore allows for removal and replacement of the battery. They are normally wireless and as such, programming and reprogramming can be achieved by a remote control for adjustment of settings.

Given that the basic role is in improving sound reception to allow for interpretation, they are considered more convenient as compared to counterparts. You do not need to replace the old ones but instead buy the battery or charge them and continue enjoying hearing. The fact that they need to be removed and replaced often means that they are not designed for placement very deep into the ear.

There are several models differing in both the design and functionality and as such, the price range is quite wide. If you choose to search one over the internet, there are hundreds of options from different manufacturers to choose from. Other than just reading the information placed by the manufacturer, it is very important to read through the customer review information.

In case you have some degree of hearing loss, you should try the rechargeable hearing aid. They come with great convenience. In addition to this, you have a number of models and versions to choose from. The manufacturers are also known to give discounts.
