It Takes Years To Build A Reputation & One Post On Google+ To End It

By Mike O'neil

It can pass as the most widely used means of self expression on the internet today. Web Logs or blogs as they are now described and widely known have become an integral part of the way business is conducted and information shared. People are "smarter than they used to be". Customers and even non-customers demand useful information all the time . Sometimes its for pay , sometimes even for free. Its all about value. Yet the world wants , and even demands quality data. You cannot , as a company of note provide low grade fodder as is provided every today on television networks , and which most people seem to absorb and consumer without complaint. In 2014 the world propagates ideas, concepts, products and services without fear of breaking the rules or a code of conduct. Blogs , and now Facebook posts are used by individuals and organizations to post information from news, opinions, gossip and photos about business, politics, economy and communities.

You may be surprised to know that the number of blogs has been growing tremendously in the recent past Blog herald, a Blog authority ", indexed the startling count of 50 Million blogs as of the end of May 2006. Even at that point the growth of blogs and the Blog count was almost logarithmic with no end in site. No doubt about it there are tons of blogs out there of every shape and description , the growth is phenomenal , No doubt some of your employees are out there Blogging which at the very least not only involves their home , family and personal lives but events and personalities at work , no doubt Guest Blogging Website services so as to maintain anonymity. Yet never forget the people at Google , Facebook and the other major companies , while they may be conservative to react have a lot more resources than you or your smaller organization do. Yet each and every company , non-profit or not to profit organization or even single individuals must be concerned about their "on-line reputation ", each and every day.

Any researcher or SEO type , worth their weight can hunt down any of a number of references to any stated post. True you can purchase cloud based services or software to monitor social media for trends or single posts - yet this a lot of work and indeed wasted effort . With a little bit of forward thinking , planning which result in clear , stated policies and procedures a whole major ordeal can be held off at the pass. After all its been stated in many management seminars that " a major role of professional fire departments is in fire prevention rather than simple old-fashioned fire fighting".

Your company , firm or organization , most likely has extensive policy and procedures manuals already . Do these manuals have procedures , polices and rules when it comes to blogs and online blogging ? At the very least have employees sign a waiver or non disclosure. This should be prepared properly with legal authorities , and should have a clear time line. Again its about clear rule and statements.

Facebook as its own entity as well as other 'Social Media" ( including simple blogs) are all powerful tools in today's business climate . Any and all tools have the great power to be used for good or even for evil . Remember it can only take one Blog entry to destroy your business image or customer base that took 5 or even more decade to nurture & develop can be gone in a flash. Take personal responsibility & steps to embrace the culture and avoid the pitfalls when guest blogging or posting to Facebook or Twitter when representing yourself or your firm. Be vigilant each and every single post.
